South Tama senior Keith Keahna returned to the lineup on Friday after being sidelined with a leg injury since the Trojans season opener. His presence was felt on the court as the Trojans more than doubled their scoring total from their two previous outings. STC would fall 78-46 to the fourth ranked (Cedar Rapids Gazette) Maquoketa Cardinals but showed signs of improvement on both ends of the court.

Starting for the Trojans were Cam Klostermann, Matt Wiese, Sonny DeMarce, Tyrin Lasley and Lane Lekin. Keahna came in off the bench mid-way through the first quarter and played nearly the rest of the game, showing little signs of any lingering discomfort from the injury.

The first quarter was pretty solid for the Trojans. Tyrin Lasley scored seven points with a combination of field goals and free throws. STC trailed by just six points going into the second quarter at 20-14. But by halftime, the Cardinals had extended their lead to 40-25.

What really hurt the Trojans was Maquoketa senior, Abe Becker. Becker is an excellent shooter and last season finished as one the best three point shooters in the state, second only to AJ Green (Cedar Falls) who is now a starter for the UNI Panthers. Becker was electric on Friday, finishing with 31 points and 7 three pointers. While Becker led the charge on Friday evening, Maquoketa's Macklin Shanahan has scored double digits for the Cardinals in each of their other games this season. The Cardinals are 5-0 with a very senior dominated roster with 10 out of their 14 varsity players being seniors.

The Trojan lineup is quite the opposite. South Tama's roster consists of thirteen players with only four being seniors. Keahna is the lone returner from last year's team that fell to Xavier, Cedar Rapids in the third round of Regionals.

The positive take away from the night was that the Trojans scored the most points all season and were able to control the ball much better than in previous outings. They had a couple of really tough games on the road were they scored less than 20 points against Marion and Beckman. Keahna actually scored a career high with 26 points.

South Tama will be at home on Friday evening to host the fifth ranked West Delaware Hawks (4-0).
