Tate' Bear recently accomplished a milestone in his high school basketball career. He sunk his 1000th point on Friday evening during Meskwaki Settlement School's contest with Colo-Nesco.

Bear has been playing basketball competitively since 5th/6th grade.

"When I started I wasn't that good," Tate' said with a smile.

It was his sophomore year when things finally started to click for the now 6'3 senior. Hitting his 1,000th point hadn't been a goal he was necessarily striving for. Now that he's done it though, the task is a weight off his shoulders.

"It was a relief to get it. Basketball has always been my thing and people are expecting a lot out of me so it felt like a relief to get it," said Bear.

Bear has been a four year starter for the MSS boys team. He said his favorite memories have been making it to the District Championship two times. What he loves about the game is that it has always been there for him and that he gets to play with friends.

The 2018-19 Warrior squad is a younger one than Bear has been used to but to him that is overall a positive. Out of the 19 on the roster only five are seniors.

Bear came into this season in better shape after running cross country this fall. His junior year he played football. He noticed a difference between the two sports and how that translated onto the court.

"Cross country helped with my endurance versus in football you just have short bursts. So I think my wind was up. It helped me get through practices. I didn't want to risk getting hurt in football," said Bear.

The Warriors are 3-1 and snagged a rivalry win over Colo-Nesco 59-30 in which Bear contributed 30 points and six rebounds. Bear currently is the scoring leader in the Iowa Star West conference.

After graduation Bear hopes to get a scholarship to play basketball. But for now, the focus is all with the Warriors and the pathway to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
