West Delaware Hawks soar past STC Trojans

By Allison Graham - Sports Editor ( , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The start of the season has been a tough go for last year's WaMaC west conference champs. South Tama opened their season 0-7 to non-conference opponents. Their latest contest had them hosting West Delaware (7-0) on Friday, December 14. The West Delaware Hawks came into the matchup tied for third in the latest Associated Press Class 3A boys rankings and continued their dominance, defeating the Trojans 66-32.

Starting for the Trojans were Keith Keahna, Matt Wiese, Tyrin Lasley, Lane Lekin and Eli Keahna.

The lack of experience in the varsity lineup has made it difficult for the Trojans. South Tama senior Keith Keahna is the only returner for the Trojans. Keahna, who was out for several games due to an injury after the Trojans played Grinnell in first game of the season has returned to the court. He has largely carried the Trojans, averaging 20.5 ppg. Eli Keahna led the Trojans with seven rebounds.

He did so again on Friday night scoring 22 of STC's 32 points. Lincoln Kingbird scored six points which was a high for the junior.

Derek Krogmann had 16 points for the Hawks on Friday night. Krogmann, a senior, has verbally committed and will be a preferred walk-on for the UNI Panthers next year. He is a two-time all state player for the Hawks and this season is averaging 21.8 points per game. On Friday night however, it was sophomore Kyle Kelly who led the Hawks on Friday. Kelly exceeded his 13.8 per game average with 20 points off of 6-12 three point shooting.

The Trojans will be on the road to Independence on Friday, December 21 for their last game of 2018.
