Jordan chairs supervisors

2nd District Supervisor Kendall Jordan was elected chair of the Tama County Board of Supervisors at their annual reorganizational meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 2. Larry Vest, 1st District supervisor, had served in the position for the past year.

3rd District Supervisor Dan Anderson was elected vice-chair.

Jordan made these appointments for 2019: County Buildings- full board; Decat Executive Board (DHS)- Dan Anderson; DHS Advisory Board- Anderson; County Emergency Management Agency-- Kendall Jordan; Tama County Economic Development Commission- Board; Early Childhood Iowa (County Auditor as Fiscal Agent)- Larry Vest, Alternate Jordan; Farm Administration,County Farm Rental- Jordan; Livestock Evaluation- Anderson Alternate- Jordan; Board of Health Services-Vest, Alternate- Jordan; Health Insurance - Contact Person for Insurance Information- Tammy Wise; Heartland Insurance Coordinator- Wise; Heartland Risk Pool Ins., County Trustee-Vest, Alternate Trustee- Jordan.

Zoning Administrator Todd Apfel.

Also the board:

approved the temporary road closure resolution allowing for the county engineer to order closure for construction and emergencies.

authorized the County Auditor to pay postage, express freight, wages and salaries prior to being audited by the Board of Supervisors and be authorized to pay all claims as signed by a majority of the Board of Supervisors.

designated The : Tama News Herald, Tama and The Traer Star Clipper, Traer, official newspapers for Tama County for the year 2019.

approved banks as depositories for county offices: County Auditor- $20,000 State Bank of Toledo; County Recorder- $125,000 State Bank of Toledo; County Sheriff $200,000- State Bank of Toledo, $10,000- Farmer's Savings Bank, Traer, $10,000- Great Western Bank, Gladbrook and $25,000- Lincoln Savings Bank, Tama.

authorize the County Treasurer to deposit county funds in the following banks and set the amount as follows Iowa Public Agency Investment Trust, Des Moines $ 4 million; State Bank of Toledo, Toledo $14 million; Dysart State Bank, Dysart $2 million; Chelsea Savings Bank, Belle Plaine, Clutier, Traer $2 million; Lincoln Savings Bank, Tama $14 million; Great Western Bank, Gladbrook $3 million;

United Bank & Trust, Marshalltown $3 million.

Approved county offices closed on these dates: President's Day- Monday, Feb. 18; Good Friday- April 19; Memorial Day- Monday, May 27; July 4th- Thursday; Labor Day- Monday, Sept. 2; Veterans Day- Monday, Nov. 11; Thanksgiving Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29; Christmas Eve- Tuesday, Dec. 24; Christmas Day- Wednesday Dec. 25; New Years Day- Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.

Two positions were noted as vacant;

farm owner operators- Rod Richardson, rural Tama, Rick Hopper, Toledo, LeRoy Hoskey, rural Chelsea, Richard Krafka, rural Dysart, Mark Volkens, rural Gladbrook and Dennis Wobeter, rural Toledo. Four positions were noted as vacant; owners of town property- Jay Whannel, Traer, Larry Frese, Chelsea, Rita Cranston, Dysart, Charles Bearden, Gladbrook, Chester Bearden, Toledo, Galen Musgrave, Toledo, Joe Boll, Toledo, Elmer Chalupsky, Elberon and Mike Pieper, Tama; people with knowledge of real estate sales- Loren D.
