South Tama County honored 17 seniors on Senior Night at a recent home meet. The Trojans hosted Solon for a cross-conference dual on Thursday, January 10. In between matches, 17 members of the 2019 senior class were recognized along with their parents and families.

Senior wrestlers include Jaime Angel, Jonathan Castrejon, Austin Elsbury, Ashton Graham, Ed Hemby, Dallas Horne, Tyra Joy, Cael Kellogg, Martinez Mora, Kevin Rubio, Jose Solis and Aiden Waseskuk. Also recognized was four year wrestling manager McKayla Babinat and first year manager Dalaynee Henle. Three cheerleaders were also recognized including Brittney Breya, Anna Glendy and Taylor Lekin.

After the Senior Night recognition matches resumed at the Roundhouse. While Senior Night is always a celebratory event the matches themselves were not so much. The Solon Spartans are ranked 2nd in Class 2A with five individually ranked wrestlers including 3rd ranked freshman Hayden Taylor at 126, 5th ranked junior Zeb Gnida, 3rd ranked senior Zack Bevans at 152, 7th ranked junior Jax Flynn at 170 and 3rd ranked Mike Hoyle at 220. With the Trojans being a rather inexperienced team, Solon was able to take advantage for a 59-12 victory.

At the two dual meetings STC's Kyler Smith had earned team points for the Trojans but Solon's Lucas Kampman managed to flip the script for the Spartans on Thursday evening winning 9-3 in the 120 rematch.

Solon followed that win up with three more to close out the night. Hayden Taylor won by technical fall over Andres Lugo at 126, Cael O'Neill pinned Boden Koehler at 132 and Aidan Dall got a 8-0 major decision win over Brayden Smith.

The Trojans will compete at Williamsburg for duals against the Raiders and West Delaware on Thursday, January 17.
