STC Alumni Band rocks the Round House

January 23, 2019

It's become a yearly tradition that current students, alumni and those in the crowd look forward to each year. The annual STC Pep Band Alumni night was held on Friday, January 4.

STC Band Director, Mike Carnahan who is in his 20th year with the district, started the tradition several years ago. He guesstimates he's been holding the alumni event for close to 10 years. The alumni idea was born from alumni telling him how much they missed playing with the pep band. The alumni night is usually held at the beginning of January when college students are still home for winter break.

This year 24 alumni members gathered to play fun and peppy tunes including songs like Frankenstein and Soul Man. The most seasoned alumni member to join the band graduated in 1974.

Any and all are welcome for future alumni events. "If there are people who know how to play the more the better," said Carnahan.

Carnahan also went on to say, "Don't listen to your inner critic that says you can't play your instrument anymore." He said it's a great education for current students to play on after graduating.
