Three from the STC wrestling team represented the Trojans over the weekend. Logan Arp (120), Aiden Waseskuk (182) and Kalem Schrock (285) competed at the Class 2A District 6 Tournament in Knoxville on Saturday, February 9.

Arp started his day with 7th ranked Payton Drake of PCM. Drake won the match 6-1 sending Arp to the consolation side of the bracket. Arp then fell to Kanon Ekstram of Bondurant-Farrar. Arp finished his freshman season with a 30-15 record.

At 182, Waseskuk faced Lucas Roland of PCM. Roland was the defending State Champion last year at 170. Waseskuk fell to Roland by tech fall. On the consolation side of the bracket Waseskuk wrestled Connor Murty of East Marshall. Waseskuk won the match and got a wrestle-back. In the wrestle-back match Waseskuk faced Ethan Reed of Carlisle. Reed won the match by fall. In his first season as a full-time varsity starter Waseskuk finished with a 32-15 record.

At heavyweight for the Trojans was sophomore Kalem Schrock. Schrock was listed at 5-10 and 230 pounds on QuikStats during the football season. He began the wrestling season in the 220 weight class but quickly bumped up to 285 on the varsity roster where he remained for the rest of the season.

Schrock faced Jace Smith of PCM in his first match of the day. In the first period of the match, Smith lifted Schrock resulting in Schrock landing on his neck. Smith was called for an illegal slam. Smith had a 5-0 lead over Schrock at the time of the match.

Schrock laid still on the mat for several minutes and as a precaution was taken from the tournament by ambulance. The illegal maneuver disqualified Smith sending him to the consolation side of the bracket. Schrock was forced into a medical forfeit but was still awarded a runner-up finish and a State tournament qualification. Schrock was seen later in the day at the STC girls regional basketball game and appears to be recovering from the injury.

It is unclear at this time if Schrock will be able to wrestle at the State Tournament. Should he have to forfeit, PCM's Jace Smith would then qualify. The first round opponent for either Schrock or Smith would be Derec Weyer from Harlan.
