Area tracksters had a sunny but breezy evening in Van Horne for the Benton Co-Ed Parent Invite on Tuesday, March 27. The South Tama boys and girls track teams competed at the event.

Some top finishes for the Trojans came in field events. University of Iowa recruit, Keith Keahna took first in the high jump with a jump of 6'2. It was a strong start for the senior who won the Class 3A State High Jump at 6'3 last season. Stacey Slaven also took first in the high jump with a jump of 5'2. Slaven finished last season at State in fourth place with a jump of 5'3.

STC senior Ashton Graham took first in long jump with a jump of 14'9. Graham was just recently the first female in program history to complete a season with the STC wrestling team.

STC freshman, JoJo Tyynismaa also had a strong debut. Tyynismaa took first in the 400 with a time of 1:04.68. Her older sister, Isabelle who is an All-American for the Wartburg Knights, holds the school record in the 400.

Center Point-Urbana won the girls meet with 165 points, Mount Vernon took second with 108 and South Tama third with 102. Other team results included: 4th Benton, 92, 5th Springville, 60, and 6th North Linn, 50.

Head girls coach Levi Hunerdosse was pleased with the outcome of the first meet. "As coaches, we were very happy with how our first night outdoors went. The girls competed very tough and are starting to realize their potential for this spring. We didn't hit on all cylinders last night but once we do we are going to be very competitive in numerous events and going to be in the mix for winning meets and qualifying for state competition," said Hunerdosse.

STC senior Drake Crawford had a good night running. He took second in the 400 Meters third in the 200 meter and was part of the 4x100 along with Keahna, Payton Vest and Jesus Wanatee-Romero who took first place.

For the boys team scores CPU won the meet with 178 points followed by Benton with 155, South Tama with 81, North Linn with 81, Alburnett wit 55 and Springville with 28.
