Iowa Valley expected to name new chancellor today

A new chancellor to replace the retiring Christopher Duree is expected to be named this afternoon, Wednesday, April 17, by the Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors at the Administration Board Room in Marshalltown.

A closed session begins at 4 p.m. which is allowed under Iowa law to discuss personnel matters. The agenda lists discussion of the chancellor candidates,employment agreement for chancellor and approval of an employment agreement.

Duree told The Chronicle it is anticipated the board will return to open session and announce their choice.

The board originally was scheduled to choose the new chancellor on April 10. However it was announced prior to that meeting the board would delay the decision and only discuss the candidates on that day.

Duree announced his June 30 retirement earlier this year after serving in the post for the past 10 years. He is currently paid $210,857 annually.

The four candidates for the position are Martin Reimer, Ellsworth Community College provost since 2015; Joe DeHart, Des Moines Area Community College provost since 2017; Kristie Fisher, senior director, national associations and market engagement for ACT, Inc. since 2014; and Greg Schmitz, vice president, Eagle View Partner, real estate property and development firm since 2018.

Following the closed session a board retreat meeting is set for 5 p.m.

report on energy consumption management program from Matt edwards

review of bond referendum election results and plans moving forward with Chancellor Christopher Duree and Kathy Pink, vice chancellor of finance / chief financial officer

chancellor transition planning- board of directors, Duree and Barbara Jennings, assistant to the chancellor / board secretary

board member self-evaluation
