Grateful For County Road Workers, Toledo EMS, Dispatchers, Neighbor

April 25, 2019
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Letter to the Editor:

I'd like to take this opportunity to give a big SHOUT OUT to an awesome group of people for saving my life ... beginning with 911 dispatchers Julie H. & Caitlan R. , Tama County Fire Dept., Toledo EMTs Greg, Tom, Dave, Tama County Road Dept. Tom N., Stacy S. and local resident (still searching for him).

I live alone on a gravel road north of Toledo. During a major blizzard on 2/12/19 1 went into respiratory failure needing emergency help.

These dedicated caring people came together working through really bad conditions to get to me. Blowing, drifting snow would become their biggest challenge and render the vehicles unable to go very far off the highway. While waiting for approval from the county engineer to allow the road crew guys Tom N. & Stacy S. to assist them (because of horrible weather conditions) this nearby resident rolled up on them offering his services to get his snowmobile and transport EMT Greg J. to my house.

As Greg is assisting me with my breathing issues he made a couple of trips back to the ambulance for needed equipment. I began losing consciousness but was able to remember looking out my patio door seeing the road grader, ambulance and fire truck at my driveway. I also remember hearing the Dispatcher in the background, asking if more help was needed did they need her to do anything, etc.

I'd like to make sure they know how much I admire their service-because it all begins with the Dispatcher. I am so grateful to have such professionals available to help me.

If I have forgotten anyone please forgive me I tried tracing down all the names of people involved.

When I hear emergency personnel say, "It's my job" I tell them it is so much more than a job. It is truly a 'calling'for all of these individuals to come together as a team to help save those of us that are unfortunate enough to need their assistance. They are Angels on Earth and have wonderful giving hearts!!!!!!God Bless Them All!!!!!

P.S. To the neighbor that assisted the emergency people .... Thank You!!!!
