STC Girls Tennis Falls to S. Hardin

April 29, 2019
From Steve Bearden - Girls Tennis Coach , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

After time away from the tennis courts for the Easter holiday, the South Tama County Girls Tennis Team matched up with South Hardin on Tuesday, April 23rd. The lack of court time was evident as the Trojans fell to the Tigers by a final score of 2-7. STC came up short in several close matches to seal the team's fate.

South Tama's #1 Doubles Team of Abbie Morgan/Zoee Buffalo got the Trojans off to a good start as they downed Megan VanDePol/Emma Spieker by a score of 8-3. South Hardin battled back to win at #2 Doubles when Jaidyn Teske/Alexis Bradshaw defeated South Tama's Anna Glendy/Queta Diego 1-8. At #3 Doubles, STC's Hope Werner/Kaylynn Dunn took on Sarah England/Isabelle Sisson. After being tied 5-5, the Tigers grabbed the final three games to post an 8-5 victory.

Sophomore Werner led the way in singles play as she easily defeated England at #4 Singles 8-2. South Tama came up short in two well-played matches by identical scores of 6-8. Dunn fell to Bradshaw at #5 Singles and Diego was defeated by Sisson at #6 Singles. Glendy fought well at #3 Singles but was defeated by Spieker by a score of 5-8.

At #1 Singles, Morgan went down to VanDePol 3-8. Representing her team at #1 Singles, Morgan sees the best player for every opposing team night after night. It is a difficult task, but one the STC Senior faces with grit and grace. Buffalo matched up with Teske at #2 Singles. In a battle that showcased superb serving by both athletes, Teske had just enough consistency to snatch the win 8-4.

In JV action, STC grabbed five wins against the Tigers. The following doubles teams recorded victories for the Trojans: Allison Thomazin/Alexes Baeza, Kaisha Wanatee/Molly Savage, Adriana Cervantes/Grace Novotny, Klohe Chyma/Jordyn Cremeans, and Clarissa Rosenberger/Richelle Werner.
