Sadie Baugher (senior, right fielder, Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont HS) was honored as the league's softball position player of the week while Brock Lewis (freshman, Lathrop, Mo.) was the conference's men's field event performer of the week in track and field.

Over the course of 14 innings on Saturday, Fritz yielded just 11 hits and two runs to help Central win the semi-final against University of Dubuque 8-2 and the final against Coe College 3-0. The complete game shutout for Fritz against the Kohawks was the second this season and sixth of her career.

Baugher also came up big in the final, driving in all three runs for the Dutch. She started the scoring with a single in the fifth and added a two-run, two-out double in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. She also was 2-for-3 with two RBIs against Dubuque in the first game.

The Dutch softball team hosts a four-team regional in the NCAA Division III Championships this weekend, starting with a first round game against Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Friday.

At the Monmouth fighting Scot Invitational, Lewis set a new career-best mark in the long jump, reaching 22 feet, 1.5 inches. He added 5.25 inches to his career best and finished third. He also clocked in at 11.78 seconds in the 100-meter dash, placing 12th.

Central will travel to Coe College on Thursday for the opening day of action at the American Rivers Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The three-day meet will conclude on Saturday.

Sports Editors Note: Mariah Fritz is a graduate of East Marshall High School. She served as an assistant coach for the South Tama Trojans for two seasons. Her younger sister, Maci, is a South Tama grad and also plays softball for the Central Dutch and her brother, Brady, wrestles for Wartburg College. The three are the children of Brian and Diana Fritz of Tama.
