Last night the STC Baseball team travelled to East Marshall for their season opener with the Mustangs.

South Tama topped East Marshall 11-4.

"Offensively we were aggressive at the plate early in the count and I think that helped us tremendously. Really hit the ball well up and down the lineup. Every starter had at least one hit and even when we were making outs we hit the ball hard," said Coach Seth Koch.

Cael Kellogg had four hits, Jackson Beltz three hits and Micky Wanatee had two doubles.

"Scored 11 runs in a season opener and could have scored a few more if not for a few miscues on the bases. Pretty typical for a season opener in the fact we made some mistakes, but nothing that can't be corrected."

Carter Kriegel recorded the win for STC pitching five innings with six strikeouts, six walks, and four earned runs.

"Carter pitched well enough to win. He will be the first one to tell you he wasn't as sharp as he would have like to have been. We know he has better stuff and when the weather warms up he will be better."

"Defensively we were solid. Lucas Wilkerson and Lane Lekin did a good job in the middle infield. We had some guys playing in different positions last night and realize they will need some time to adjust."

Tonight's home game against PCM at Trojan Field has been postponed due to weather. The Trojans will be on the road to Wapsie Valley (Fairbank) Friday evening to take on the Warriors in a varsity double header.
