Our Town will be presented July 11-13 at the Wieting theatre in Toledo.

Our Town is one of those plays that is never out-dated. Why? Because Our Town is all of us - it is our lives on this earth. We are moms trying to get our kids up for school. We are the people who were or are young and in love for the first time. We are the Dads who work to support our families. We are the kids who played little league baseball, struggled with math problems, and wanted so much to be grown up. Our Town is us. So when we sit in the audience, we know exactly what the characters feel because we have felt the same way.

Of course, there is humor in our lives and there is humor in the play. The church choir director has a little problem with alcohol. The ladies of the town are amusing gossips. The teen-agers are, well, teen agers - fun in their very youthfulness and wonderful in their special way We will find plenty to laugh at as the play unfolds.

But, hopefully, we will walk away with a message that makes us even better as a person. And we will learn this lesson as so many lessons are learned through tragedy. A character whose life is cut short far too soon speaks to all of us when she asks, "Do any humans ever realize life while they live it."

Perhaps, just perhaps, as the play ends and we walk out of the Wieting, we will ask ourselves the same question, and we WILL begin realizing our lives as we live them.
