Trailblazers top STC Trojans in two

The South Tama Trojans hosted Beckman Catholic for a WaMaC cross conference Varsity Double Header on Thursday, June 13. In two games STC fell 12-8 and 12-0.

Pitching game one for the Trojans was Brayden Smith. He threw for 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits, eight runs, three of which were earned, walking three and striking out 1. Smith was relieved in the sixth inning by Lane Lekin who gave up five hits, four runs all of which were earned, walked four and struck out one.

In game one the Trojans got their bats swinging in the third inning. Cael Kellogg hit a hard line drive that scored three runs. Kellogg recorded four RBIs, Mickey Wanatee had two and Smith and Jackson Beltz also each recorded one RBI. The Trojans built up a six run lead, up 7-1 going into the fourth inning. Beckman Catholic senior Shawn Deutmeyer started the night for the Trailblazers giving up seven hits, seven runs, walking three and striking out two. He was relieved by Josh Engler.

Beckman Catholic responded by slowly chipping away at the Trojans lead. They scored five runs in the fourth inning, three in the fifth and another three in the seventh all while holding the Trojans to just one more run scored in the bottom of the fourth. The comeback resulted in a 12-8 win for the Trailblazers.

In game two senior Trailblazer Carter Petsche took the win for Beckman. He pitched for five innings allowing no hits, runs, walking one and striking out seven.

Lucas Wilkerson pitched game two for the Trojans. He lasted for all five innings allowing 19 hits, 12 runs, walking 1 and stricking out 1. The night ended in a 12-0 loss for STC.

The Trojans will be on the road this week to Central DeWitt on Thursday, June 20.
