Week 4: A Universe of Stories

We had our 4th and final week of programs for "A Universe of Stories" summer reading program. The children will continue to read and keep time logs throughout July. The last day to turn in log sheets for prizes will be Wednesday ,July 31.

We will have one last day together on Tuesday Aug. 6, at 1:30 p.m. This day will be for all ages of children that are registered in the program.

On "Prize Day", we will find out who's pin in the bulletin board came closest to the hidden moon, that person will win four Adventureland Tickets. There will be many other prizes given out that day and we will see who was closest to guessing the number of stars in the guessing jar.

For our Tuesday, June 25, program, we read about Goldilocks planets and talked about Area 51 and the possibility of other life out there in the universe. We experimented with a vinegar and baking soda rocket and everyone had a turn with the stomp rockets. For our craft we made comets and we did temporary tattoos and face painting makeup was used to make aliens on arms hands and legs. We had ice pops for treats, and everyone had an Oreo cookie-A special 50th Anniversary Moon Landing Cookie! Yum.

Thursday's program for the preschool and Kindergarten children was on June 27th. We read- "Pete the Cat: Out of This World"; "The Babysitter from Another Planet"; and "Mario and the Aliens". We made comets, and did the tattoos and face paint aliens too. We gave out prizes and of course had ice pops and Moon Oreos.

We added another Super Sponsor to our list, Kwik-Star in Toledo.

They join these other great super sponsors: Williams Manufacturing, Independent Insurance, Pinnacle Bank, OK Tire, Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama County Supervisors, State Bank of Toledo, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lincoln Savings Bank, Blank Park Zoo, Casey's General Store, Dollar General Grant, Anne Michael, Robert Ingles Trust, El Gallito, and the F.O.E. Ladies Auxiliary.

Remember to check the library's Facebook page to see pictures from all fourweeks! We had some terrific volunteers again this year-We couldn't do it without you. Make sure you attend Prize day August 6th.
