Special to The News-Herald , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The Tama Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has announced the addition of Savanna Lopez, Intern. Lopez's duties will include assisting with gathering field data and conservation planning. The SCWD promotes soil and water conservation through public education, commissioner development, policy, on-the-ground conservation, conservation practice promotion, events and more.

A native of Montour, Savanna is a 2018 graduate of South Tama County High School. Lopez also completed her Associate of Arts degree in 2018 from Marshalltown Community College. She is currently enrolled at Iowa State University and is double majoring in Environmental Science and Animal Ecology through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

"Through this internship I hope to gain experience in all aspects of soil and water conservation, whether it's agriculture and urban practices, wildlife management, or wetland conservation. I'm uncertain of what specific direction I want to go in once I am finished with my education, but this internship will help me get my feet wet, figuratively and literally with office and field experience. I am looking forward to gaining hands-on experience in conservation and learning about different career paths through this internship," said Lopez.
