Lyle Brehm will continue to serve as Tama and Poweshiek county engineer in a bi-annual 28E sharing agreement for fiscal 2020-2022 renewed by both county board of supervisors on Monday, July 22. The arrangement has been in place since 2002 and serves each county in a variety of management capacities.

Brehm told The News-Herald on Tuesday, "I like to say it feels sometimes like being Richie Cunningham (of Happy Days TV series fame) having two dates for the prom at the same time..." He notes the arrangement "Saves money for both counties."

Brehm currently receives $140,858 annually which is divided equally between the two counties. The amount of one-half of the amount is well below the amount of $107,778 which is the average county engineer salary state-wide in an Iowa Association of Counties survey.
