A middle-of-the night fire alarm at the South Tama Middle School in Toledo stemmed from a malfunction of an electrical control which caught a nearby wooden bench on fire in the basement Toledo Fire Chief Kendall Jordan said.

Toledo and Tama firefighters were called to the scene just before 2 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, with a report of light smoke coming from the roof area.

Jordan said fire damage was minimal but smoke had filled the entire building and some clean up will be required. Firefighters were on the scene until 5 a.m. Jordan said.
