Devon Lynnette Ward, 29, of Tama, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019 at her home in Sisseton, SD. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement with Mike Keahna as Speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.

Devon was born on November 21, 1989, in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Deron and Shirley (Noline) Ward.

Devon graduated from South Tama High School in 2007 and attended Marshalltown Community College for one year on a volleyball scholarship. She worked for Meskwaki Housing and Dakota Magic Casino. Devon enjoyed dance, volleyball, basketball, and golfing. She attended many powwows throughout the United States. Devon loved traditional dancing. Her greatest joy was spending time with and raising her daughter, Daezha Jade Heminger.

Survivors include her daughter, Daezha Jade; step-sons, Jeffrey, Alex, and Jaxson Heminger all of Sisseton, SD her parents, Deron and Shirley Ward of Tama; brothers, Donovan (Meagan) Ward of Cedar Rapids, Denton (Taylor) Ward of Marshalltown, and Dylan (Mollie) Ward of Urbandale; significant other, Jeffrey "Chaske" Heminger of Sisseton, SD; nephews, Donovan Jr. and Declan both of Cedar Rapids; nieces, Makayla of Kanawha, IA, Chloe of Mt. Pleasant, Emaela of Marshalltown, and Trinity of Cedar Rapids; grandmother, Alma Ward of Tama; grandparents, Steve and Sharon Hull of Lawrence, KS uncles, Aaron (Gayle) Walker, Danny (Waskonass) Wabaunasee, James (Tracy) Ward all of Tama, and Randy Noline of Geary, OK; aunts, JoAnn (Russell) Youngbear, Ferol Ward, Jana (Andre) Roberts, Kimberly Ward, LaQuetta Ward all of Tama, Ester Noline of Geary, OK, and Theodosia Bond of El Reno, OK; Devon is also survived by many cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Jimmie Ward, Valentine and Theodosia Noline; cousins, Adrian and Jordan Wilson, Wayman Wolf, Royce Timberwolf, and Reginald Walker; uncles, Samuel Noline, Eddie Tecumseh, and Montgomery Ward; and her aunt, Mary Noline.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
