105th Meskwaki Powwow continues- Friday afternoon session cancelled

The 105th annual Meskwaki Powwow continues Friday night through Sunday (Aug 9-11) at the Powwow Grounds three miles west of Tama on Tama County Road E49.

The Powwow has announced "Due to circumstances beyond our control, the afternoon session of the 105th Annual Meskwaki Powwow, scheduled to occur on Friday, August 9th, has been canceled. This will affect Friday afternoon's session only. Friday evening's Grand Entry will be held at 7 PM." All other sessions scheduled through Sunday, August 11th will be held as planned with Grand Entry at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to traditional dances in authentic regalia, historical exhibits and Native American crafts are on display.

Candidate Visits

A number of candidates vying for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination have scheduled stops at the Powwow.

At press time they included: Saturday Aug. 10- Montana Gov. Steve Bullock 12:40 p.m., author Marianne Williamson 1 p.m. and U.S. Senator Cory Booker 8 p.m.
