Second Lincoln Hwy. Military Tour to pass through Friday

Another 2019 Military Centennial tour is set to pass through Tama County with a Tama photo stop at the Lincoln Highway Bridge on East 5th Street this Friday, Sept. 6. It looks like the tour will begin arriving in Tama County sometime from early afternoon on if the tentative schedule is followed.

Following the Lincoln Highway route, the tour will enter Tama County west of Belle Plaine on and follow what is now Tama County Road E66 through Chelsea to U.S. 30 east of Tama. The route proceeds on U.S. 30 to Tama, through town and then west of Tama County Road E49 through the Meskwaki Settlement and Montour.

According to the posted schedule on the internet, the tour is to stop in Sterling, Ill., on Thursday night, Sept. 5. A lunch stop at the "The flying Wienie" in Cedar Rapids is on Friday withan overnight stop next in Marshalltown on Friday, Sept. 6.

The tour information says it "will travel at a leisurely pace, averaging under 200 miles daily."

It adds vintage vehicles, military civilian, have been invited to participate and "The event is structured so that it allows each vehicle's "crew" to travel at its own pace during each day. We don't convoy, so your speed is set by the driver."

The tour is reported to have begun near the White House on Saturday Aug. 31, and expects to arrive at the Palace of the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park, San Francisco on Sept. 16.

The 100th Anniversary Military Convoy was welcomed to Tama on aug. 23 with also a stop at the Lincoln Highway Bridge and Tama American Legion Post 73.
