Annabelle Louise Grimm

Annabelle Louise Grimm, 94, passed away on Aug. 31, 2019, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. A mass will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel at 11 a.m.

Annabelle Louise Grimm was born September 19, 1924, the youngest daughter of Fred J. and Emma (Wacha) Hushak. She was raised on the family farm near Clutier Iowa. After graduating high school at the age of 17, she attended beauty school in Des Moines. After completing her education, she opened a salon in downtown Toledo. She later moved her salon to her home in Toledo.

To the union of her first marriage to Lawrence Rucker came her son Dana Lawrence in 1947 and daughter Jean Marie in 1950. In January 1959 Ann married Franklin Grimm. They were together for over 60 years. Franklin was at her side when she passed away on August 31, 2019 at the Iowa Veterans Home where they resided.

Her husband Franklin became a licensed beautician after their marriage. They expanded the salon and in 1961 opened a second salon in Grinnell. In 1970, they moved to southern Iowa where Franklin worked in grain bin mfg. and construction. They retired to Toledo and later settled in the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Ann had wonderful memories of playing basketball in High School during the championship years of the Clutier charging Czechs coached by John Schoenfelder. Dancing, singing, knitting, and gardening took up her more able years. To the end she loved to hear and tell a good joke.

Ann Grimm was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Fred L. Hushak, Pearl (Hushak) Schoenfelder, June (Hushak) Casey, and Victor Hushak.

She is survived by her husband, son; Dana (Sara) Rucker, daughter; Jean (Rucker) Borkenhagen, grandchildren; Tara (Eldon) Lean, Mark (Kim) Borkenhagen, and great grandchildren; Devon, Madison, and Koby Lean, Dalton Haddock, Brett, Hope, and Gage Borkenhagen.
