Delmer Whitebrest, 80, of Tama, passed away, Monday, October 21, 2019 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A Traditional Wake will be held Tuesday evening, October 22, 2019 at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement with Larry Lasley Sr. as Speaker.

Delmer was born on March 30, 1939, in Tama, Iowa, the son of Horace and Jennie (Davenport) Whitebreast.

He graduated from Tama High School.

Delmer served his country in active duty in the U.S. Marine Corp and then joined the Army and retired from the Army Reserves. He completed his civil service retiring from the Rock Island Arsenal in IL.

On April 6, 1976, he married Staphne Davenport in Toledo, Iowa. Delmer's hobbies included being outside doing yard work, gardening, listening to music and watching football, golf, and boxing. He was a fan of the Oakland Raiders and enjoyed watching "The Young and the Restless".

Survivors include his wife, Staphne of Tama; three sons, Stanford Kapayou, Jon Whitebreast, and Waylon Whitebreast all of Tama; sister, Angela Montoya of Albuquerque, NM; and a special cousin/sister, Wanda Lasley of Tama.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Colleen Tahahwah, Melba Shemayme, Fern Seaboy, and Maria Nicholi; brothers, Steven Bear, Archie Bear, Rolland Davenport, and Sterling Kapayou.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
