Carolee Doyle

Carolee Doyle, 81, of Toledo, passed away Monday morning, October 21, 2019 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama, Iowa, under the care of Hospice Compassus. It was Carolee's wish for her body to be deeded to the University of Iowa for medical education and research. A Memorial Service will be held in June of 2020.

Carolee was born on December 26, 1937 in Toledo, the daughter of Willard and Esther Westfall Hennesy. During high school she worked at the drug store. She lettered in Varsity basketball and was selected as a First Team All-Conference guard. She graduated from Toledo High School with the class of 1955.

On November 23, 1957 she was united in marriage to John "Dick" Doyle at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church Rectory in Tama. They lived in or near Toledo all of their lives except for 2 years farming West of Garwin. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church.

Carolee held many different volunteer and professional titles during her lifetime. She was President of the STC PTA 1966-1967. In 1968 she was the first Welcome Wagon Hostess in Tama-Toledo and spoke of the many people she helped welcome to the communities.

She earned her Real Estate license in the late 1960's and started working for Kensinger's and then for Dirks and Kleis until 1982. During her time in Real Estate she was the Secretary of the Tama County Board of Realtors and T-T Multiple Listing Service.

She was very proud to be the first woman elected to the Toledo City Council and served from 1972 - 1980.

Because of her early diagnosis of scoliosis, she was adamant about recreation and sports participation.

In 1976 she helped to organize the STC REC board and served as Treasurer from 1976-1983. In the late 1980's - 1990's she ran the REC girls' basketball program and continued to follow the lives of many of the young ladies she coached.

The family were also members of the Tama-Toledo Country Club where Carolee was Ladies Club Champion multiple years.

For many years she was also a teacher's aide in Shirley Hall's fifth grade classroom.

Survivors include five children: Kirk (Shelly) Doyle of Carrollton, TX, Cary (Joyce) Doyle of Attica, MI, Joel (Lori) Doyle of Des Moines, Eric (Julie) Doyle of Lake City, MN and Amy Doyle of Toledo; eight grandchildren: Alex and Luke Doyle, Kyle (Stephanie) Doyle and Sara(Justin) Ruggles , Kaitlin Doyle and Andrew (Renae) Doyle, Anthony Brandt and Shelby Doyle; nine great-grandchildren, Makayla, MaKenzie and Kaulin Doyle, Madison, James, Lily and Brooklyn Bambard, Jase Brandt and Jordan Doyle; Brothers Larry Hennesy and Craig (Fran) Hennesy, Sisters Judy Cooper and Beverly Judge; Sisters in Law Sandra (Dennis) Zmolek, Sandy Doyle, Mary Doyle; Brother in Law Mark (Alice) Doyle. Along with many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Dick in 2015; Brothers Dean (Anna) Hennesy, Bob (Marge) Hennesy, sister Colleen (Bud) Adair; Sister-in-Law Darlys "Sis" Hennesy; brothers-in-law John Cooper, Virgil Judge, Joe Doyle and Gene Doyle.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Toledo Fire and Ambulance or the Wieting Theatre.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
