Marsha Jean (Corporan) Schmidt

Marsha Jean (Corporan) Schmidt, 72, of Des Moines and formerly of Tama, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines. A Memorial Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 1-3 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in rural Tama with Pastor Keith Tomlinson officiating.

Marsha was born on October 14, 1947, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Neal and Mary (Mason) Corporan. She was raised by Don and Darleen Hofer after the age of twelve.

Marsha graduated from South Tama High School in 1967. She got her CNA degree after high school and worked in the medical field most of her working career working in Marshalltown and Williamsburg, Virginia while Richard was in the U.S. Army. She also graduated from Dental Assisting school in Marshalltown.

On November 24, 1967, she was united in marriage to Richard Schmidt in rural Toledo, Iowa. They lived in Virginia and Texas while Richard was in the Army. Marsha enjoyed boating and camping with the family when the kids were young. They fondly remember vacations in Texas, Colorado, Black Hills, South Dakota, and the Wisconsin Dells. Their weekend jaunts frequently included Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Nebraska.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-one years, Richard of Des Moines; two sons, Eric (Lisa) Schmidt of Albion, and Marc (Sara) Schmidt of Johnston; four grandsons, Jacob, Nathan, and Brayden Schmidt and Jacob Worthen; one granddaughter, Jenna Worthen; three sisters, Sara Garcia of Brush, CO, Charlotte Lynn of Eagle Grove, IA, and Marian Nieman of Claudia, IA; her mother, Darleen Hofer of Marshalltown; her brother, Dan Hofer of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her biological parents; brothers, Gary and Gerald Corporan; her father, Don Hofer; her sister, Robin Hofer; and an aunt, Betty Kerns.

A memorial fund will be established.
