Charles William Hogue

Charles William Hogue, 92, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at his home in Toledo under the care of his family and Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor John Christianson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 2, 2019 prior to the service from 11 AM- 1 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.

Charles was born on February 18, 1927, in Kellerton, Iowa, the son of Russell Vance and Hazel (Dugan) Hogue.

He attended Mt. Ayr High School.

Charles served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1948-1952 spending time in Germany where he met his wife, Josefine.

On March 17, 1953, he was united in marriage to Josefine "Joann" Roguszka in Berlin, Germany. His working career included Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, farming north of Marshalltown for John Henry Nickerson, Grey Iron Foundry in Marshalltown, Marshalltown Manufacturing 21 1/2 years, Concord Refrigerated Express in Ankeny, and truck driver for 3L Corporation in Tama and Bituminous Material & Supply in Tama where he retired. Charles was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, and a fifty year member of the Toledo American Legion. He enjoyed raising and selling AKC Registered German Shepherd dogs from 1965-1976. He loved traveling and retelling his life story. Charles took pride in raising his five children to love nature and be responsible.

Survivors include his children, Michael Hogue of Marshalltown, Patricia (Rodney) Henle of Toledo, Richard Hogue of Germany, and Diane Hogue of Toledo; six grandchildren, Brian Michelson, Lisa Hogue, Aaron (Whitney) Henle, Allison Henle, Kristy Pretasky, and Amber (Justin) Heald; six great-grandchildren, Lisandra, Lillian, Ashtyn, Kinley, Berkley and Khloe; one sister, Aileene Dickerson of Lenox, IA; a very close friend, Julio Castro of Toledo; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Josefine on June 19, 2009; one daughter at birth; one son, Ronald Hogue in 1993; and three sisters and their spouses.

Memorials may be directed to the Toledo American Legion or Iowa River Hospice.
