Doug Ray, currently an at-large council member, will take over as Tama Mayor on Jan. 1, from Mike Carnahan who did not seek reelection.

"I want to thank everyone who voted and I am looking forward to working with this group and would like to thank Dan Zimmerman and Mike Carnahan for the guidance over the years of service," Ray told The News-Herald after the election results were tabulated Tuesday night.

Carnahan replaced Zimmerman as mayor in April, 2017, and then was elected to fill the unexpired term.
