Official enrollment in South Tama schools dropped just under one percent or a total of 13 students for the 2019-20 school year. A total of 1528.48 students are listed in official figures compared to 1,541.1 for 2018-19. (Fractional figures reflect students only enrolled for a limited number of classes.)

Superintendent Jared Smith pointed to what he termed the "bright spot" in the report which showed a total of 40 students open enrolled into the district, the highest number in the 15 years of records provided. Last year the enrolled in total was 27 and the highest in the 15 years was 33 students in 2018-19 school year.

On the other side, there were 104 students enrolled out, up five students from the last year, but down from totals ranging from 108 to as high as 125 over the previous seven years.
