Trojans wrestlers tune up ahead of 2019-20 season

The South Tama County Trojan wrestling team started their season with an intrasquad meet on Monday, Nov. 26. The evening featured 27 matches including five matches from the 8th grade wrestling squad.

One of the more notable matches of the evening featured STC's lone female wrestler Morgan Woosley. Woosley, a junior, faced freshman Guillermo Garcia. The match went into overtime and Woosley took the win with a takedown of Garcia.

A potential lineup of for the Trojans starts with junior Brody Chyma at 106, 113 is open, freshmen Haydin Branan, Ethan Cruikshank and Eddie Garcia are vying for 120, Logan Arp at 126, Brady Knode or Kary Kesl at 132, Kyler Smith at 138, Boden Koehler, Anderson Castro or Morgan Woosley at 145, Garrett Arp, Logan Schmidt or Guillermo Garcia at 152, Aaron Neave or Gavin Jimenez at 160, Brayden Smith at 170, Vincent Branan, Mitchell Knock or Ryne Kesl at 182, Payton Vest, Draysen Henle, Antonio Taylor or Nathaniel Palmerez at 195, Kalem Schrock, Aaron Adams or Rudy Papakee at 220 and Dayton Fill-oon at heavyweight.

Returners for the Trojans include 2nd year starters Brody Chyma, Brady Knode, Garret Arp, and Brayden Smith. Also District qualifying returners include Logan Arp and Kalem Schrock. Schrock also technically qualified for the State Tournament due to a forfeit by his opponent after an illegal move left Schrock injured and unable to compete.

The Trojans will return from Thanksgiving break with their first competition being at the Independence Invite on Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6.
