Medical course offered by Iowa Valley College District

February 3, 2020
From: Robin Anctil - Director of Marketing - Iowa Valley Community College District , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

For the first time ever, Iowa Valley Continuing Education is offering the American Heart Association's Heartsaver Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid course in Marshalltown. The class will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 9 am to 4 pm at the IVCE Conference Center (room 614) at 3702 S. Center St. in Marshalltown.

As a helpful bonus, the popular AHA Bloodborne Pathogens course is being held just prior to that, from 8 to 9 am on the same date and in the same location.

The AHA Heartsaver Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid course is for daycare providers, new parents, foster parents, and others who care for and about infants and children. The class is limited to 12 students, and a completion card will be issued.

"This course designed for anyone, with no medical training, to recognize pediatric emergencies and give first aid, perform CPR, use an AED, and provide relief of choking prior to the arrival of emergency providers," says Diane Roum, LPN/EMT and course instructor. "This course also includes procedures for adults, with a focus on children and infants following the AHA guidelines. We are excited to be able to offer this course locally for the many people who care for infants and young children."

In anticipation of the high demand for these courses, additional sessions of AHA Heartsaver Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid and AHA Bloodborne Pathogens will be offered Mar. 21 in Grinnell, April 4 in Marshalltown, April 18 in Iowa Falls, and June 6 and Aug. 1 in Marshalltown.

Cost of the courses are $84 for Heartsaver Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid and $30 for Bloodborne Pathogens. Registrations and payment are required before the start of each class and can be completed online at:
