Kim Gjetley

Kim Gjetley, of Toledo, formerly of Thornton, passed away Sunday February 2, 2020, at Cedar Valley Hospice in Waterloo. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Retz Funeral Home, 107 N. 2 nd St., Thornton, with Pastor Bob Kosbau of Grace Church, Marshalltown presiding. Interment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday and continue until the service at 2:00 pm.

Kim Louise Gjetley was born June 2, 1957 in Marshalltown, a daughter of John and Lola Mae (Prusha) Holst. She graduated from high school in Lincoln, Nebraska and attended college in Lawton, OK earning her diploma and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She served as an LPN at Commanche County Memorial Hospital and the Indian Hospital in Lawton, OK; Rome Hospital in Rome, NY; Utica State Hospital in Utica, NY; Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake and the Sheffield Care Center as well as Mercy Hospital in Mason City.

On February 2, 1979 Kim was united in marriage with Bruce S. Gjetley in Mason City. She attended church and taught Sunday School at Army and Air Force bases in the Philippines, Oklahoma, New York. And attended First Baptist Church, Sheffield; Faith Baptist, Hampton; Center Street Baptist, Marshalltown; Mesquakie Assembly of God and Grace Church in Marshalltown.

While in the Philippines she volunteered for the American Red Cross serving in the Well Baby Clinic in the Hospital. She loved farm life and raising all sorts of animals on their acreage outside Thornton and helped with the local 4H chapter.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 41 years: Bruce; children: Amber (David) Wiede; Kendra (Ted) Peterson; Kali (Jan) Posten; Bruce M. Gjetley (s/o Danielle Spec); Seven grandchildren; siblings: Steve Griffith (s/o Rhonda Olszewski); Gina (Damon) Dornbier; Arthur Rice, Jr. (Jessica); aunts and uncle: Darleen Hofer; Gail Hall; Rob Hall, and many friends.

Kim is preceded in death by her Grandparents Florence Prusha and Edward Prusha; her father John Holst and his parents; uncle Eugene Prusha and her mother Lola Holst on February 4, 2020 as well as uncle Don Hofer and mother-in-law Lola Rice.
