The total number of Iowa confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 179 on Thursday after an additional 34 cases were confirmed by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Also as of Thursday, there have been 2,975 negative COVID-19 test results reported by the State Hygienic Lab and other labs.

Tama County remains at four confirmed cases.

Governor Kim Reynolds extended the Emergency Proclamation which includes the closure of restaurants, bars and retail stores to April 7. Elective medical and dental surgeries are now suspended. Also health insurance companies will reimburse for tele-health services. Iowans are encouraged to use those services as opposed to going into the office.

There is now a record 3.28 million claims for unemployment insurance nationwide, with the State of Iowa totaling 41,890 claims filed this week alone.

Governor Reynolds reiterated there will not be a shelter in place order for the State of Iowa at this time. Locally, the Meskwaki Settlement has been under a self-imposed shelter in place order since Saturday, March 21. The measure was enacted by order of the Meskwaki Tribal Council on the same day that the first confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Tama County.
