The music is pumping, and in slow motion, the bat cracks the ball, sending it into the clouds. This is just one scene out of one video by local Eric Henry.

At just 20 years old, Mr. Henry recently started his own business. If you’ve been to the Stoplight Festival this year or the Lincoln Highway Days Parade, then you might have glimpsed him. Moving in and out of the crowd, his camera pointed at the action, Eric was shooting a video. Eric H Media started late last year and continues to grow. His videography services have been utilized in all types of events all around Iowa.

“I have worked in a plethora of different events including being a part of the media team for Iowa Mustangs Unstabled which is a car group based out of Central Iowa,” he said. “I have done many personal videos for athletes and many teams such as North Tama, Grinnell, Xavier, Van Meter, West Marshall, Cedar Falls, STC, and the list will continue to grow as time moves on! I’ve also filmed the Lincoln Bridge Festival and many businesses around Iowa.”

Toledo Mayor and Tama-Toledo Chamber of Commerce Vice President Brian Sokol was reached to comment about Eric’s videography services, which have been utilized at multiple local events.

“The Chamber reached out to Eric so we could showcase our events in a professional manner on social media and our new website. We look forward to using his services at future events,” he said. “Our mission is to support local businesses and it’s great to see local entrepreneurs that want to stay and work in the community.”

With a passion for photography, but an annoyance with the limitations of still photography, Eric has been curious about the power of videos since childhood. Currently, Henry is the owner, operator, boss, and employee of Eric H Media all rolled into one. This one-man band business lets Eric personally film and edit himself.

“I feel I can hold myself more accountable for certain aspects if they do not go as I thought,” he said.

However as his business grows, so will his staff, as he made sure to add that he plans to expand.

Eric H Media is only a part-time gig for now, as Henry is currently attending the University of Northern Iowa. With a major in Business Management, Eric hopes to take what he’s learning in college to grow Eric H Media into a fully thriving business.

“I would be able to learn business aspects while also blending my creative skills, providing me with a versatile skill set for a dynamic career in the creative industry,” he said.

Taking this business from hobby to full-time would be a dream for Eric. The occupation of videographer encapsulates multiple different interests of Henry’s — one of which is sports. Being as big a fan of sports as he is and having the opportunity to film athletes and ball games is what makes it more than a job for Eric.

“When shooting sports I feel like there is so much emotion and showcasing of athletes that don’t get much recognition that it makes it all worth it,” he said.

Eric H Media may be less than a year old, but the future looks bright, especially as its owner is constantly looking forward.

“An event I would like to be a part of is the state events for High School such as football at the Dome, or Wrestling at Wells Fargo! Racing events have always been a dream of mine to film as well as concerts,” he said. “I would also like to get into more business shoots showing the aspects of how videos can help market and how a social media presence can be beneficial!”

It may still be early beginnings for Eric H Media, but the company is just building momentum that will have them thriving for years to come. So, if you are out at the next parade or festival, and you see a guy walking around filming the festivities, more than likely, that’s Eric Henry making a ridiculously cool video.
