Toledo native, author Jeff Stein brings “Floppy” to the library
“Images of America – The Floppy Show” will be presented by Jeff Stein, a native of Toledo, on Saturday, March 31, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Toledo Public library, 206 E. High St.
The program is free and open to all.
In his presentation “Making Waves: The People and Places of Iowa Broadcasting”, based on his book by the same name, Toledo native Jeff Stein takes us back to the earliest days of both radio and television.
The presentation this year will highlight children’s televi-sion programming, including celebrating the 60th birthday of Floppy, the iconic puppet brought to life by Duane Ellett.
The program is made possible by Humanities Iowa and the National endowment for the Humanities.
It is sponsored by the Tama County Historcial Museum and hosted by the Toeldo OPublic Library.
Jeff Stein is an author, historian and broadcaster. A 2011 recipient of The National Award of Merit from the American Association for State and Local History, he is recognized as the foremost broadcast historian in Iowa. His daily radio feature on Iowa history, Iowa Almanac, airs on two dozen stations around the state. His daily interview program can be heard weekday afternoons on News/Talk 1540 KXEL, a legendary 50,000-watt radio station based in Waterloo, where he serves as news and program director.
Jeff is the son of the late George and Shirley Stein, longtime Toledo residents and buisness people. His brother, Mike Stein, is a partner in Stein-Hrabak Floor Covering, Toledo.
