New Toledo Mayor Brian Sokol along with new council member Jeremy Cremeans and reelected member Joe Boll all were sworn-in on Monday night, Dec. 23, during the regular council meeting. Outgoing Mayor John Lloyd did not seek reelection.

Sokol is moving from a council seat to the mayor’s post. On Dec. 9 the council voted to fill his unexpired two-year term by appointment planned to be made on Jan. 13. Applications for the position are to be filed by Jan. 9.

Toledo voters can also file a petition asking for a special election. It must be filed within 14 days after the appointment. It would require signatures of at least 10 percent of the voters in the Nov. 5 city election in which 272 total votes were cast according to Tama County Elections Administrator Karen Rohrs.
