Toledo woman indicted in theft from Traer trucking company

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Toledo woman was recently indicted by a federal grand jury as part of an ongoing case involving the theft of more than $400,000 from Siemens Trucking in Traer, according to reporting by the Waterloo Courier newspaper.
Back in 2020, LeAnn Marie Rouse, 49, was initially charged in state court with nine counts of theft in the first degree and one count of ongoing criminal conduct for allegedly embezzling more than $235,000 from the Traer trucking company Siemens Trucking owned by Steven A. Siemens.
Rouse had been a bookkeeper for Siemens at the time of her arrest on Nov. 12, 2020.
According to court documents, beginning in October 2016, Rouse allegedly began embezzling money from Siemens’ business accounts. The activity continued until the theft was discovered in August 2020.
Bank documentation showed Rouse writing and depositing checks to herself. Court records show Rouse deleted checks from the books in an attempt to hide the crime.
Rouse was terminated from Siemens Trucking on Aug. 20, 2020.
Per the Waterloo Courier’s reporting last week, Rouse has been indicted in federal court for diverting more than $400,000 from Siemens Trucking for her own use between 2015 and 2020 and using accounting software to hide the crime.
As previously reported in the News-Chronicle, Rouse was charged with nine counts of first degree theft and one count of ongoing criminal conduct back in 2020 at the state level after an investigation by the Tama County Sheriff’s Department.
The federal indictment charges Rouse with three counts of wire fraud. Her arraignment was scheduled for this week in Cedar Rapids.
Rouse’s initial case remains pending in Tama County District Court. Rouse waived her right to a speedy trial. A three day jury trial is still set to begin on May 22 at 9 a.m.
Rouse filed a written arraignment and pleaded not guilty to the state charges in early 2021. She is currently represented by attorney Joel Waters.
