Over in a flash
This week’s Toledo city council meeting
This week’s Toledo City Council meeting was over in a flash, with agenda items being checked off with ease. First of which was a new business in town, D’s Garbage Service, approval for a collector’s license.
The council then moved on to approve a tax abatement for a property on C Street.
The council spent a while discussing the new Woodlawn addition. It was determined that wheels are in motion on several items for the development.
Kendall Jordan with the Public Works department reported that two workers have been hired. One of the new hires is Rich Jiminez, who has already started full-time. Last week a leak survey was done; one leak has already been fixed, and another has possibly been detected. The wells have been looked at and well one is slotted to be cleaned of debris. A new flag pole will also be put up at Toledo Heights Park.
Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between Sept. 25 and Oct. 8, there were 149 calls to service, with six arrests being made — 55 traffic stops were done with 28 traffic citations issued, and three search warrants were executed. Lt. Wunn and Chief Quigley recently attended a Law Enforcement administrators conference.
The principal of the STC middle school approached the chief about a corner at the south end of the building. The corner, located at the crossway of the streets Green and Ohio, is constantly being parked at and needs to open for the loading and unloading of a vehicle for handicapped students. Chief Quigley’s idea to the council was to make the corner a handicapped parking-only zone. The council will consider this.
The council then went into a closed session.
