Self-guided history tour for Oak Hill Cemetery is July 2
TAMA — The Tama County Historical Society has created a self-guided history tour for Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. The tour includes a history of the cemetery, as well as profiles of some of the people interred there.
“The subjects are a cross section of some of Tama’s former citizens from the beginning of Tama through recent years,” said Joan Hayward Helm, historical society president and cemetery tour organizer. “Many thanks to the City of Tama and the Oak Hill Cemetery Association for allowing all of us to share in their beautiful cemetery and its history.”
Orange field flags denoting stops on the tour will be placed in the cemetery July 1-14. Handouts with corresponding information will be available at the Tama County Museum beginning July 2 during regular hours (Tuesday-Thursday, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.). They will also be available at the Tama City Clerk’s Office July 9-11.
The tour is designed to be self-paced; take in all the stops at once, or come and go over time.
A link to an electronic version of the tour handout will be available at www.tamacountyhistory.org starting July 2.
