Masked machete wielder identified, arrested
The Toledo Police Department has now identified and arrested 32-year-old Anthony Reitinger as last week’s masked man who wielded a machete around Toledo. Reitinger is a registered sex offender after being convicted of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse in 2014.
The Toledo Police Department got an arrest warrant for Reitinger on Monday, July 29 on charges of harassment in the first degree and trespass first offense.
The Toledo Police Department had received two calls, both on Sunday the 21st, reporting sightings of the masked machete man, now known to be Reitinger. The first sighting was at 1:16 a.m., and the second at 11:07 p.m.
One report was of the masked man on the local’s doorstep ringing the doorbell, which had been captured by the Ring doorbell camera. The other report was of the masked man riding a skateboard and pointing his machete at a vehicle as it passed.
As of Wednesday morning, Reitinger was not listed on the Tama County inmate roster. The Marshall County Public Defender’s Office has been appointed to represent him, and a no-contact order has been issued between Reitinger and the alleged victim in the harassment case.
