Doland narrowly prevails over Wobeter in District 4; Kupka defeats Lenhart in District 5 supervisor race

Tama County Supervisor-elect Mark Doland.

TOLEDO – The long-awaited day has come and gone. Tuesday saw Tama County residents strolling under rain leaking clouds to cast their votes. Sitting at a table beneath a partition like they’re taking at school, locals voted not only for president but for bond issues and supervisors.

The supervisors districts 4 and 5, were well fought over by local civic minded candidates. In the end, both districts went to the Republican candidate.

Only 43 votes made the decision for District 4. Republican Mark Doland of Toledo, who saw both support and controversy over his past recently, clinched the win with 773 votes to Democrat Berleen Wobeter’s 730.

District 5 had a more clear winner, with a few hundred votes separating the victor and the runner-up. Curt Kupka of Chelsea was named supervisor with 1,004 votes being cast in his favor over Democrat Bruce Lenhart.

Kupka and Doland will start their new positions in January of next year; when the Tama County Board of Supervisors will grow from three to five. So, now that the election has reached its conclusion, the yard signs can be retired, and the campaign buttons can be thrown in a drawer, as the public has had the final word.
