STC board sets early retirement, accepts upcoming resignation of high school principal
After multiple meetings of policy discussion, the STC school board has set their early retirement policy for the current school year.
After a work session, the board went into regular session at 6 p.m. Opening the meeting was Seth Koch and Kevin Nelson using public comments to communicate their views on the early retirement policy being set later in the meeting.
The board spent much time making the decision and landed on the stipulation of giving benefits to the first six applicants who have at least 15 years of consecutive service to the school district. Applications were sent to candidates in the district who are eligible and on Wednesday, Dec. 11, applications were able to be dropped off at the district office.
Perhaps second to early retirement policy, the next largest takeaway from the board meeting was high school principal Robert Boley’s resignation being accepted. Boley will finish his third year with the district before departing.
Janelle Pirkl gave the board a presentation discussing the contents of the Iowa School Performance Profile. Prikl answered clarifying questions along with breaking down scores of each of the district buildings.
The Farmer’s Daughter was approved to provide school photo services for the next five years.
In a continuation from the last board meeting, the “Education Support Personnel Salary Supplement” was approved to offer a small bonus to staff. A base amount will be paid and then additional funds will be split up based on other factors. All money used was given through the state to qualifying districts.
The meeting concluded at 8:26 after a motion from Thissen to adjourn. The board will next meet on Jan. 13.
