On Monday, it took everyone longer to take a seat than to actually have the Toledo City Council meeting. In a ‘blink or you’ll miss it event,’ the council meeting had a lone agenda item. Andrew Bunce was sworn into office as a City of Toledo Police Officer.

Bunce is 46, married with children, and from Cedar Rapids. The new officer has a long job history starting with seven years in the military, four years of active duty in the Marine Corps. He did three deployments with the Iowa National Guard.

Bunce has worked several different security and loss prevention jobs including 12 years security at the Nuclear Power Plant in Palo and has worked in the retail security officer program at Hy-Vee since 2022. Bunce also holds a degree in photojournalism.

The public works department dealt with some issues at a water main by Hardees and is preparing for possible inclement weather.

Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between Jan. 27 and Feb. 9, the department responded to 107 calls to service and affected five arrests. Two search warrants were executed as well.

A theft of approximately $4,000 worth of tools from Corteva was reported, and around $1,000 worth of the tools have been recovered so far. The explorer was towed to Rasmusson’s due to an internal water pump issue. The city clerk has been working on the budget and working on getting demonstrations of new software.
