Another officer was sworn in at this week’s Toledo City Council meeting. Anthony Rodriguez, who worked for the Toledo Police Department for some time a couple of years back, has been hired back on part-time. Rodriguez’s starting wage will be $27 an hour.
The other agenda item was the Grace Church Street project. The council approved hiring Manatt’s for approximately $130,000 to resurface the street in front of the new middle school/ old juvenile home.
A discussion was had among the council members over the rampant amount of dog feces out at Toledo Heights Park. Talk of putting up signs with more severe warnings and even the possibility of providing baggies and trash cans to dispose of local pet droppings was had. It was agreed upon that the word needed to get out that citizens need to pick up after their dogs. Councilman Joe Boll suggested the large-lettered headline, “Pick up your s***.”
The public works department reported that they’re going from plowing snow to mowing grass. They have started spring, park, and sign repairs.
Toledo Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that between Feb. 24 and March 9, they received 118 calls to service and affected 5 arrests. There has been a slight increase in retail thefts, and Officer Bunce is helping with that as he has experience with retail theft. Officer Igor is halfway through the academy and is set to graduate on April 25. The department also needs to update some software and will be buying some computers from another county as some of their current computers wouldn’t be compatible with the new software.
