Children’s Theatre Camp returns this summer

Footliters Traveling Playhouse is bringing “The Great Zoo Escape” to The Wieting Theatre. This musical is designed for students of all levels of theatre experience. Campers will audition, rehearse, and perform a musical alongside three professional teaching artists… in one week. The “Great Zoo Escape” is a brand-new production with script by Katie Colletta and music by Jason Sifford. It’s another great day at the zoo, and the arrival of a new resident has everyone wild with excitement. But when the animals learn their zoo is in trouble, panic ensues. Will the animals join paws, hooves and wings to save their beloved home? Join us for a high-flying adventure about the power of teamwork and being yourself.

The camp is open to 50 students entering 2nd grade and up. Camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 14-18 with the final performance at 7 p.m. on July 18. The cost is $90 per student which includes a camp photo and t-shirt. This is a great opportunity for students to learn theatre skills and perform for their families and friends. Some of the skills learned are being comfortable in front of a crowd, vocal projection, stage directions and technical aspects of theatre. Performers learn how to cooperate and work as a team to put on a musical in one week while having fun.

Registration forms will be distributed at school, at Tama and Toledo libraries and the Wieting Theatre. Also, you can locate the form at wieting.tamatoledo.com, click on the “about” tab and under summer camps a printable version is available.
