Donald Antone Hayek
Donald Antone Hayek, 79, of Tama, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 9:30 AM until the time of service at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Donald was born on May 3, 1938, in rural Tama County, Iowa, the son of Charles F. and Mayme (Musel) Hayek.
On October 17, 1992, he married Janet Neuroth Werner at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama. Don had previously worked at Gray Iron in Marshalltown. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and was a Green Bay Packers fan. Donald enjoyed feeding the squirrels and gardening. His cat “Tommy” was special to him.
Survivors include his five step-children, Louanne (Merle) Steinlage of Toledo, Janice (Floyd Jr.) Haughey of Tama, Marylyn Wheeler of Urbandale, Donald (Roxanne) Werner of Des Moines, and Robert (Pam) Werner of Gilbertville; thirteen step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Tammy (Brad) Halliwill of Eagle, NE, and Debbie (Lonny) Linder of Gretna, NE; and one nephew, Jim (Kathy) Hayek of Jacksonville, OR.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Janet in 2006; and one brother, George Hayek.
A memorial fund has been established.
