Eldon Max Richards
Eldon Max Richards, 85, of Montour, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor John Christianson officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour. Visitation will be held Monday, September 3, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Eldon was born on March 11, 1933, in Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Russell and Laura (Shaver) Richards.
He graduated from Montour High School in 1952.
On August 29, 1992, he was united in marriage to Kathy Lewis Toney at home in Montour, Iowa. He worked as a machine operator for Fred Carlson in Decorah, Iowa for thirty years, retiring in 2005. Eldon attended Living Faith United Methodist Church in Montour and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He liked camping and outdoor activities and also enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife Kathy of Montour; children, Arlo (Rhonda) Richards of Waterloo, Allan Richards of Tama, Bruce Richards of Tama, Shelly Richards (Dallas Wacha) of Sugarland, TX, Brian (Jill) Richards of Alpharetta, GA, Kim (Toby) Taylor of Tama, Tammy (Steve) McGrane of Altoona, Bob (Jodie) Toney of Snoqualmie, WA, and Paula (Jim) Straight of Indianola; nineteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one sister, Janice Goettsch of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and one sister, Vivian in infancy.
