Norma Jean Young Bear
Norma Jean Young Bear, 80, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:30 AM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 507 E. Olive St. in Marshalltown.
Norma was born on October 23, 1939 in Urbandale, Iowa, the daughter of Decoven and Patience Mae (Dagnillo) Zimmerman. She graduated from Urbandale High School in 1957.
On August 29, 1960, she was united in marriage to Terry Young Bear in Oakland, CA. Norma has worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company in Des Moines and operated an in-home daycare in California. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, caring for her home and family. In her free time, Norma loved to sew. She also enjoyed shopping and was an excellent cook. Norma was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Marshalltown.
Survivors include her husband Terry of Tama; four children, Debra Young Bear of Tama, David Young Bear of Tama, Rachel Young Bear of Lake Isabella, CA, and Eric Young of Tama; twelve grandchildren, Decovan Young Bear, Madison (Jose) Henriquez, Jett Mosman, Vaughn Witcher, Ashton Witcher, Devin Young Bear, Niko Joy, Cheyenne Joy, Talon Young Bear, Kianna Young Bear, Olivia Young Bear, and Abigail Young Bear; one great-grandson, Mason Henriquez; two sisters, Kathleen Stewart of Leon, IA and Jeanette Ellington of Louisiana; and one brother, Richard (Terri) Zimmerman of Louisiana.
Preceding her in death was her parents.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice.
Norma’s family would like to thank the staff of Iowa River Hospice, especially Holly Dunn, for the care Norma received.
