Carl E. Anthony, 91, of Toledo and formerly of Brooklyn, passed away Monday, February 17, 2020 at UnityPoint Health in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Loran Skow and Matt Jensen officiating. Interment will follow at Haven Cemetery in rural Tama. Visitation will be held Friday, February 21, 2020 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Carl was born on June 28, 1928, the son of Emory and Mary (Reed) Anthony. He grew up on the family farm east of Haven, Iowa and later moved to a farm south of Haven. He attended the Haven School near his home.
Carl served his country in the Korean Conflict and HD Quarters 18 Field Artillery group in 1951 and 1952. After his service, he enrolled in A.I.B. and graduated with a degree in accounting.
On September 2, 1956, he was united in marriage to Naomi Blake at the Fairview Church in rural Toledo. They made their home in Des Moines where Carl was an accountant for Solar Aircraft and later Iowa Power and Light. You can take the boy off the farm, but you can’t take the farming out of the boy. He had a chance to buy land in Poweshiek County and spent fifty-eight years there until October 2019, when he moved to Toledo.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Naomi; four daughters, Karen (Tracy) Tichy, Sharon (Robert) Manfull, Colette (Dean) Krisher, and Marilyn (Mike) Bowles; four grandchildren, Joe (Heather) Hanus, Amanda (Tyson) Akers, Shannon (Josh) Cox, and Shane (Jessica) Manfull; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Anthony.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Grace (Harlan) Klenk; brothers, Earl (Lucille), Floyd, and his twin brother, Clifford.
