Sonja M. Mason, age 81, of Tama, passed away in her sleep on Sunday, July 5, 2020 where she resided. A graveside service for Sonja will take place Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Woodlawn Cemetery. She and her family are being cared for by Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Sonja was born on April 30, 1939 in Mason City, IA. Her parents were Ernest and Ruth (Jencks) Hostetter. She married David Mason on August 27, 1967.

She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Toledo, IA for 35 years and was a part of the church group Deborah Circle. Sonja was church secretary for 11 years, doing many tasks like the bulletin, ordering and writing “The Life of Church.” She worked for the Treasurer’s Office as a tax deputy until she retired in 2001.

Her favorite things to do were gardening, going on vacation and spending time with family and friends.

Sonja is survived by her sons, Mike and Aaron Mason; grandson Austin Mason, granddaughter Brianna Mason, and numerous relatives and friends.

Those gone before her were her husband, David Mason in 2016; her father, Ernest Hostetter; mother and step-father Ruth and Victor Woebeter; and Louis Woebeter.
